We all get bombarded with tons of emails everyday but do you remember the last time you received a handwritten letter?
Pretty sure that question had you thinking about the time you received a beautifully-crafted letter. They sure give an intimate feeling that the person has taken time out of their life to write a letter for you instead of just jolting it down on a keyboard and hitting the send button.
In this fast-paced world of instant communication and information-on-the-go, Ivan Cash came up with Snail Mail My Email, an art project that lets you send a beautifully-crafted letter to anyone you want to by filling up a short form on the website. This unique project aims to make people realize the importance of writing a letter.
Snail Mail My Email was born in 2011 when Cash set out to write more letters for 30 days after quitting his dream job. The project quickly found many volunteers and together they sent thousands of beatifully-written letters. Talking to Mashable, Cash said
Emails are great and all, but god there are so many of them, and they are so much less intimate and personal than receiving a letter in the mail,
Writing a letter, he added,
is an act of true generosity that says, ‘I care about you and took the time to write this for you.’
Two years have passed and Snail Mail My Email is an annual week-long event comprising a total of 431 volunteers that have beatufiully crafted over 13,000 letters.
